Assam: Drug gang attack police, smuggler Manik Miya held; Notorious criminal Mustafa arrested while smuggling cows to Bangladesh

Three other smugglers Rusmat Ali Azibur Rahman, Rabi Awal and two truck drivers were also arrested

Guwahati: Drug mafia attacked police during a raid in Karimganj district in Assam on Sunday. Armed with sharp weapons, the drugs gang attacked the police team. Nilambazar police station OC Suraj Dutta and two other police personnel were injured in the sudden attack. The police team retaliated and fired on the drugs gang. But the gang escaped taking advantage of the residential location.

The police arrested one drug mafia leader Manik Miya. The search operation is on to nab the other criminals involved in the drug trade and police attack. 

In another development, Nagaon police in central Assam arrested six persons for illegal Cattle smuggling. Police seized two trucks, one car and recovered 42 cows and Rs. 34,560 cash in the Borghat area of the district.

A central team from District Police HQ conducted the operation and seized 42 Cattle and ₹34,000 at the Borghat by-pass and arrested six smugglers. Arrested smuggler and mastermind Mustafa Ahmed is a wanted criminal and several cases including murder and robbery registered against him. He is currently involved in crimes like cow smuggling to Bangladesh, Nagaon SP Anand Mishra told the media. Few lower rank police personnel are also associated with this racket. Nagaon police currently probing these allegations. 

Arrested smugglers have given details about two police personnel posted at Borghat outpost. They are allegedly involved in facilitating illegal cattle transportation in lieu of money. While one constable was arrested, another home guard is absconding.

Among those under police custody are three other smugglers Rusmat Ali, Azibur Rahman, Rabi Awal and two truck drivers.
