The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) condemned the sacrilege attempt at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Saturday (December 18) and said it was unfortunate.
Condemning the unfortunate incident, RSS Sarkaryawah Dattatreya Hosabale ji said, “Shri Gurugranth Sahib and Shri Guru Parampara is our shared heritage. It is revered by all and is a store-house of Indian knowledge. Vested interests, which are trying to create disharmony in society, are trying to do it. They must be identified and punished.”
He added that such incidents should not be allowed to disturb the social harmony.
Terming the incident “most unfortunate”, the Punjab government constituted an Special Investigation Team (SIT) under DCP Law & Order on Sunday (December 19), which would present an investigation report in two days.
Political leaders, cutting across party lines, condemned the sacrilege attempt at the Golden Temple.
Former Punjab chief minister and SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal condemned the sacrilege attempt. He said, “The heinous attempt to commit sacrilege at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, is deeply shocking & exceedingly painful! The crime is too reprehensible for words & it has caused 'deep anguish and outrage in minds of Sikh masses all over the world'.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi “strongly condemned the most unfortunate and heinous act to attempt sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Harimandir Sahib during the path of Sri Rehras Sahib”.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh said, “Strongly condemn the horrific incident of attempted sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Darbar Sahib. Govt must get to the bottom of what led this man to act in such a despicable manner!”
