Bangladeshi EC officials undergoing training in Delhi

Bangladesh general elections are due by December 2023; hence, poll officials from Dhaka coming to Delhi for training have a special significance in bilateral ties and mutual trust.

New Delhi: The Bangladeshi Election Commission officials receive training in New Delhi. Twenty-five fresh EC officials from Bangladesh will join the training programme organised by the Election Commission of India commencing December 20. Already 25 others had received training from November 29 to December 10. 

This is a new international batch of trainees hosted by the India International Institute of Democracy & Election Management (IIIDEM) on a cost-sharing basis with the Bangladesh EC Secretariat.

India's Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said the IIIDEM, as the dedicated training institute of the Election Commission of India, has been organising a series of such capacity development programmes for officials from various elections management bodies.

These training sessions would provide a platform to share and mutually learn best practices in election management. Such courses also provide an opportunity for officials to get good exposure to each other's methodology of conducting elections, Chandra said.

Officials say a batch of EC from Sierra Leone also have been undertaking a training programme in New Delhi under the initiative of EC India.

Sources said the officials from the National Election Commission of Sierra Leone are undergoing a capacity-building trading course. The CEC, India, has assured the Sierra Leone team that all assistance would be provided to them for their request of IT infrastructures and the development of an e-learning portal to exchange ideas and train officials. The Bangladesh team was also taken to Agra as part of the field visits during the training.

The next Bangladesh elections are slated to be held by December 2023 or early 2024.
