The border guards have arrested 110 Bangladeshi Smugglers and 124 Indian Smugglers in 11 months. Seized drugs and contrabands worth rupees 11 crores in the same period.

Guwahati: The Guwahati Frontier of the BSF has rescued 7,820 cows in the last 11 months on the Indo-Bangladesh border. The border guards have arrested 110 Bangladeshi Smugglers and 124 Indian Smugglers during the same period.

During the period between 1st January 2021 to November 2021, Guwahati Frontier has made a total seizure worth rupees over 10 crores 67 lakhs. These include drugs, Phensedyl syrups, Yaba Tablets, Ganja, etc. were seized by the Guwahati Frontier. The frontier force has seized huge numbers of drugs and contrabands in the same period from the international border, which includes 25,600 Bottle of Phensedyl, 2,936 Kilograms of Ganja, 48,398 YABA Tablets and fake Indian currency (FICN) of 3,98,000.

The Guwahati Frontier of BSF was raised on 1st October 2011 and assigned to guard the Indo-Bangladesh Border in West Bengal and Assam, covering 509 Km of the international border. To secure the assigned International Border of India and Bangladesh, the Guwahati frontier has 11 BSF Battalions and one Water Wing with 80 various types of Water Crafts deployed at 142 BOPs under 3 Sector Headquarters.

The socio–religious-political dynamics of bordering districts of West Bengal and Assam differs from each other, which is why both have different security scenarios. Moreover, the geographical terrain of bordering districts, i.e. Coochbehar in West Bengal, Dhubri and South Salmara Mankachar in Assam under Guwahati Frontier, is different from each other. It is a matter of pride that despite facing various challenges, complex border areas, and the mighty Brahmaputra, Frontier Guwahati has been executing its assigned task in an exemplary manner and has earned distinction in maintaining the security sanctity of the International Border.

Apart from maintaining the sanctity of the Indo-Bangladesh Border, BSF Guwahati Frontier is also actively engaged in helping the border population. Taking forward this spirit of the force, many Civic Action Programs like distribution of sports items to youth, stationery to schools, Pesticide spray machines to farmers, sewing machines to empower womenfolk and medical camps to the benefit of border villagers also conducted various awareness campaigns and distributed mask & sanitisers to fight against Covid-19. Apart from regular steps, BSF extends all types of proactive help to the border population by providing ambulances, evacuating patients at crucial hours, and saving the precious lives of border populations. The BSF has celebrated its raising day on 1st December.
