AK 81, AK 86, M 16 in the hands of Manipur terrorist groups; Huge cache of weapons seized by police; CM announces cash reward

Police recovered one AK-81 Rifle with magazines, AK-86 with magazines, M-16 A4-UBGL (40 mm Grenade Launcher) magazine, M-16 with a magazine, RPG Launcher, one RPG Shell, 13 AK-56 with 13 and many more in Thoubal district.

 

Imphal: The Manipur police on Sunday (November 28) recovered a huge cache of weapons in Thoubal district. Police Sources confirmed that the recovered foreign-made automatic weapons belonged to some terrorist group and were hidden to transport to some other state. A Manipur police on a confirm tipoff successfully recovered one AK-81 Rifle with three magazines, one AK-86 with three magazines, one M-16 A4-UBGL (40 mm Grenade Launcher) magazine, one M-16 with one magazine, one RPG Launcher, one RPG Shell, 13 AK-56 with 13 magazines, 200 numbers of 7.62 x 39mm live rounds, and 10 numbers of 5.56 mm live rounds, police said.

The recovery of the huge ultramodern automatic weapons in the state creates panic amongst the citizens, especially after the deadly attack on the Assam Rifles team in Churachandpur district on November 13. AR colonel with his wife and minor son, and four jawans were martyred in that deadly attack by PLA terrorists.

Meanwhile, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh announced a cash reward of 10 lakhs rupees for the police team involved in the operation that led to the seizure of a huge cache of arms and the arrest of three persons at Huikap Awang Leikai of Thoubal district. 

Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Monday and tweeted, “I congratulate the Thoubal Police team led by SP Jogesh Chandra Haobijam on recovering a huge cache of arms and arresting 3 individuals from Huikap Awang Leikai during an operation. The team involved in the operation will be rewarded a sum of Rs 10 lakhs along with commendation.” 

The weapons were seized following disclosure by a proscribed UG group member, who was nabbed by the joint police team during a house-to-house search operation conducted at Huikap area on Sunday afternoon, SP of Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam told the media. Police arrested another two men in connection with terrorist links and recovered weapons.

Huge arms and ammunition concealed in a water tank kept under the ground of a cowshed were recovered by a joint team of Thoubal district police on Sunday afternoon.
