NDTF Clinches Victory in Delhi University Teachers’ Union (DUTA) Polls After 24 Years, Defeats Left-Backed DTF

National Democratic Teachers' Front's (NDTF) Prof AK Bhagi defeated the Left-backed Dr. Abha Dev Habib for president's post by a margin of 1382 votes.

 

In the Delhi University Teachers' Union (DUTA) polls held on Friday (November 26), the National Democratic Teachers' Front's Prof. AK Bhagi won the president's post securing 3584 votes. The NDTF won the president's post after 24 years.

Prof. AK Bhagi, the president of the National Democratic Teachers' Front (NDTF), is a professor of chemistry at Dayal Singh College of Delhi University.

The Left-backed Democratic Teachers' Front (DTF) won the elections for the last five terms. Prof. Bhagi had lost to DTF candidate and the current DUTA president Prof. Rajib Ray by a very slim margin in the last election.

The ad hoc teachers of Delhi University had formed the ad hoc Teachers' Front and had fielded Dr. Shabana Azmi, who is an ad hoc political science teacher in Zakir Husain College, for the DUTA president's post. She could secure only 263 votes.

The Academics for Action and Development (AAD) had fielded Dr Prem Chand for the DUTA president's post but could secure only 832 votes.

Total 7194 votes were polled out of 9446 votes. Three hundred and thirteen votes were invalid. Prof. AK Bhagi secured 3584 votes, while Dr. Abha Dev Habib could secure only 2202 votes.
