India's power in the sea has increased further. 'Visakhapatnam' was commissioned into the Indian Navy's fleet on Sunday. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh handed it over to the Navy in a ceremony held at Navy Dockyard Mumbai. Visakhapatnam, which keeps an eye on every enemy's weapon in the sea, will further secure India's maritime border.
The unique thing is that Visakhapatnam has been made under Make in India and Self-reliant India. INS Visakhapatnam is made with 75% indigenous technology. Along with this, many techniques used in it are also completely indigenous.
INS Visakhapatnam was constructed using indigenous steel DMR 249A and is one of the largest destroyers built in India, with an overall length of 163 meters and displacement of over 7400 tonnes. The vessel is capable of carrying out diverse tasks and missions across the full spectrum of maritime warfare.
Features of INS Visakhapatnam:
– INS Visakhapatnam has eight Brahmos anti-ship missiles in it. BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile developed jointly by Russia and India Defense Research and Development Organization.
– INS Visakhapatnam will also carry 32 Barak-8 Long Range Surface to Air Missiles (LR-SAMs). These missiles have been made jointly by India and Israel.
– Apart from the machinery compartment, this warship also has a total atmosphere control system. With this system, the crew can operate this ship even in the environment of biological and chemical warfare.
– The AN-630 Close-in-Weapon System is also installed in the front part of this 7,300-tonne ship.
– INS Visakhapatnam has a Rail less helo traversing system for better handling of helicopters. With the help of this, this ship will be able to operate two different roles in helicopters simultaneously during the mission.
– INS Visakhapatnam has indigenously made twin-tube torpedo launchers and rocket launchers, which enhances the anti-submarine power of the ship.
– Apart from this, it will also have a Ship Data Network (SDN), Automatic Power Management System (APMS), Combat Management System (CMS) and Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS).
