‘Moment of Pride’, RSS congratulates Bharat for achieving vaccine century

India's covid vaccination drive was launched on January 16, 2021, and took 85 days to touch the 10-crore vaccination mark, 45 more days to cross the 20-crore mark, and 29 more days to reach the 30-crore mark.

Congratulating the Indians who made the vaccine century possible, the RSS on Friday (October 22) expressed a sense of pride and said that this was a proud moment for all the Bharatiyas. In a landmark achievement, India's cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed 100 crore doses on Thursday. As per the Cowin portal, 100 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far to eligible beneficiaries.

India's COVID-19 vaccination drive was launched on January 16, 2021. Initially, the vaccination was opened for Health Care Workers (HCWs) only. From February 2, front-line workers were made eligible for vaccination. These included State and Central Police personnel, Armed Force Personnel, Home Guards, Civil Defence & Disaster Management Volunteers, Municipal workers, Prison Staff, PRI Staff and Revenue workers involved in containment and surveillance, Railway Protection Force and election Staff.

The vaccination drive was expanded from March 1 to include persons above 60 years of age and those above 45 years with associated specified 20 comorbidities. It was further expanded to all people above 45 years of age from April 1. From May 1, all persons above 18 years of age were made eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.

To mark the completion of administering 100 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses, the largest khadi tricolour in the country, weighing around 1,400 kg, was displayed at the Red Fort on Thursday. The same tricolour with dimensions 225 feet by 150 feet was unfurled on October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti – in Leh. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday appealed to all those eligible to get inoculated without delay and contribute to the historic vaccination journey of India.
