Assam police had arrested Md Shariful Hussain of Jorhat and Md Yashin Hussain of Golaghat in connection with printing, possession and circulation of Fake Notes in Assam.

Guwahati: In the past several years, fake currency notes circulation has been increasing in Assam. Kudos to the migrant Muslim crooks and efforts by the enemy on that side of the border. Indian Intelligence believes that the notorious Pakistani agency ISI is trying hard to pump FICN to Assam and other parts of the North East. On Wednesday (October 6), Assam police had arrested Md Shariful Hussain of Jorhat and Md Yashin Hussain of Golaghat in connection with printing, possession and circulation of Fake Notes in Assam. The police team recovered 100 Rs denomination FICNs valued around 13 thousand and one computer and a printer.

The worrying fact is that these fake currency rackets are now printing and circulating fake notes in the state. Last week only Darrang Police in North Assam busted a fake Indian currency note (FICN) racket and arrested five persons, including three women from Nagaland, from a remote village in the district. The police also seized 50 FICNs in the denomination of Rs 500 and a printing machine used for printing FICN from their possession.

Panbari Police under Dhula Police Station on September 29 conducted a raid in the house of one Mohibul Hoque of village Raja Howli and arrested all the five persons, including the three Naga women. The arrested criminals have been identified as Nazrul Hussain and Hafizur Islam of village Islampur No. 2 under Bihapuria Police Station in the Lakhimpur district. Three Naga women, Antoli Hayemi (31), Hukheli Sumi (31) and Jury (30) of Zunheboto village under Zunheboto Police Station of Zunheboto district of Nagaland, were also arrested by police.

On1st August this year, Darrang police seized fake currency notes of a face value of Rs 2,78,000 in the denomination of Rs 500. Police arrested the kingpins of the FCIN racket Rafique Ali, a resident of Uttar Kalikhura village and Jun Ali, a resident of No 1 Goriajhar village, both under Panery police station in Udalguri district.

On June 12 this year, Darrang police again arrested five people involved in the FICN trade. Arrested Ali Hussain, Amirul Islam, Rahul Ali and Inamul Haque all from village Bandia Chapori under Mangaldai Police Station – and Saddam Hussain of Baroipara in Barpeta district. Police recovered a fake currency printing machine, a bundle of blank paper sheets for printing FICN, five mobile phones, cash Rs. 13,410 and FICN amounting to Rs.17,500 and two motorcycles from their possession in May this year, Bongaigaon district police seized a huge cache of fake currency notes and arrested a person named Abu Bakkar Siddiqi. Police seized fake currency notes of value Rs 1,86,800.

In June this year, the Border Security Force (BSF) arrested one Bangladeshi from the Baladova village along the Indo-Bangla international border in Assam's Dhubri district. Fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 49,500 were recovered from his possession of the arrested Bangladeshi Kalam Ali, a resident of Dhanirampur village at Kurigram district in Bangladesh.

In Guwahati only in 2020, a total of 42 cases were registered in connection with the printing and circulating of FICN.

According to a police source, most of the FICN are being smuggled to the city from neighbouring countries. Assam police intelligence sources told 'Organiser' that most of these FICNs are pumped through the Bangladesh and Myanmar border. Due to the strict vigil of the security forces and police, the FICN rackets are now up to printing and circulating the FICN locally, which remains a major challenge for the police.
