According to the city police, "The Garchuk Police team today at 5:30 AM recovered a huge cache of explosive substances and devices from a Mahindra Bolero pickup van." The police stopped the speeding vehicle at Garchuk Chariali and apprehended the driver and another occupant in the vehicle.

The Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number AS-15-AC-4867 was travelling at high speed from Lakhra Chari Ali towards Boragaon. The recovered bags of explosive substance and devices were with no documents (Gelatin Sticks 4660 pieces and Electric Detonators 2300 pieces).

The apprehended people have been identified as Ainal Ali, age 27 and Rahim Badsha. Age 26, both hailing from Bongaigaon. DCP west Guwahati city police Navaneel Mahanta said that the apprehended men couldn't reveal the details of the explosives. The Police in their investigation found that the explosives were brought from somewhere in Meghalaya. But who is importing the huge amount of explosive and the reason behind it is still under investigation, DCP Mahanta added. Police are now searching for a man named Kader Ali, who they believe can reveal the purpose of bringing the explosives. The Assam police intelligence is investigating the terrorist organization angle of the seized explosives. Ahead of the Durga Puja festival, the recovery of huge explosives in Guwahati alarmed the security agencies.
