Aditi S Nair, an 11th-grade student from Delhi, has been adjudged Runner-up in the Senior category in the prestigious Royal Commonwealth Essay Competition for 2021. Another Indian student, Raisa Gulati from Amritsar, is the Junior Runner-up.
Queen Elizabeth II is the chief patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society who conducts this competition. The first prize in the Senior section has gone to Kayla Bosire from Kenya, while Junior Winner, Ethan Mufuma, belongs to Uganda.
The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is the world’s oldest international writing competition for schools, established in 1883. With thousands of young people taking part each year, it recognises achievement, elevates youth voices and develops key skills through creative writing. Over 25,648 young people submitted entries this year sharing their ideas.
Awards will be presented to the winners at a glittering function at St James’s Palace, London, on October 28. Commenting on this year’s competition, the Society, in a statement, said: “The QCEC 2021 was especially competitive, with over 25,648 young people submitting an entry and sharing their ideas with our #Commonwealth family. Thank you, and a tremendous well-done, to all those who entered!”
Aditi, the daughter of G Sreedathan, Associate Editor of Organiser, and Bindu Sreedathan, DDG, Ministry of Urban Development, is a student of Sanskriti School in Delhi.
