Guwahati: The anti-Assamese character of Congress and AIUDF has been exposed after the arrest of two of its leaders in connection with the case of attacking Assam police during Dhalpur eviction. One Congress leader and one AIUDF leader were arrested by Assam police on Sunday night for inciting and mobilising locals to attack police during an eviction drive in Dhalpur in Darrang district on 23rd September.
Top Assam police officials told 'Organiser' that the two arrested individuals have been accused of criminal conspiracy, instigating violence and mobilising crowds at the behest of extremist Islamic organisations such as the PFI as well as its college-level wing Campus Front of India (CFI).
The arrested persons have been identified as Md Asmat Ali Ahmed and Md Chand Mamud. According to the police, Chand Mamud is the President of Sonowa Village Panchayat elected as a Congress candidate. While the other arrested person Ashmmat Ali is the former President of Bojona Pathar village Panchayat from the AIUDF party.
The Sipajhar Police is interrogating the two accused. A team of CID is also interrogating the arrested conspirators. On 23rd September both the arrested persons were present at Dhalpur eviction site and they even held discussions with the district administration. But after the discussion both the persons incited the people against the eviction drive and created violence in the area, police sources said.
Top police officials of Darrang have informed that based on their statements and electronic evidence more people are likely to be nabbed. Earlier the ruling BJP had accused that parties like Congress and AIUDF are pouring fuel in the burning fire. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also categorically said that opposition party leaders had visited the Dhalpur area prior to the eviction and incited the people against the government eviction drive. He also said that leaders of PFI, CFI, AAMSU have instigated the mob to take law in their hands. Assam police already identified 6 leaders of PFI, AAMSU, ITTEHAD Front and one college teacher for mobilising violent acts against police on 23rd September in Dhalpur eviction site.
