Guwahati: Assam Governor professor  Jagdish Mukhi, while visiting Kalyani Niwas at Rupnagar locality in the city on Tuesday, emphasized on educating the girls so that they can contribute to the growth of the nation. Spending time with the girls taking shelter there, Governor Mukhi opined that a girl-child should be given utmost priority to provide her with the opportunity for education.

“Since education is the prime mover to development, it should be compulsorily provided to all girls and encourage them to study, become educated and contribute to the growth of the country,” said the Governor adding that women education has received a top priority in Assam and it has created a model.

Professor Mukhi also said that childhood is the most formative period of one’s life. Therefore, all efforts should be taken to ensure that children enjoy their childhood. One should remember that the children who receive love, care and good education, grow into strong teenagers who make their own impact in the world, added the Governor.

It may be mentioned that Kalyani Niwas is a project under the Assam State branch of the Indian council for child welfare, which started in the year 2007 with an aim to offer the children, especially those from the underprivileged and vulnerable sections of the society, a better and safer place. The home is supported by Assam State child protection society since April 2019. It is also under JJ Act since 2016.

The home has over 50 girl children with the age limit of  6 to 18 years. To make the children self-reliant in life the organisation provides them vocational training according to their aptitudes in beauty parlour, stitching, embroidery and handcraft, education, computer training in developing knowledge and skill.

Lauding  Kalyani Niwas for contributing and promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign by taking care of the girl children, Governor Mukhi assured that he would extend all possible help and cooperation to it for keeping up good works. The Governor also blessed the children for a happy and a successful life ahead.

In presence of Assam’s first lady Prem Mukhi, Kamrup (metro) district magistrate Biswajit Pegu, social welfare department secretary Partha Pratim Mazumdar, etc Professor Mukhi also appreciated the organisation for giving a helping hand to the socially challenged children by providing them better facilities and engaging them in different activities like education, cultural, spiritual, recreational pursuits, sports and vocational activities etc.
