Guwahati: Completing the Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Assam on Tuesday, Union ports, shipping & waterways and AYUSH minister Sarbananda Sonowal offered heartfelt gratitude to karyakartas of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) along with representatives of civil society groups, who extended their supports to the former State chief minister which Sonowal terms as his strength.

Addressing a selected gathering of people at Khalihamari of  Dibrugarh in eastern Assam, Sonowal bared his heart with appreciations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending whole hearted supports to Assam as well as other north-eastern States in the process of developments. Sonowal urged the residents of Northeast to continue blessing PM Modi
for his future missions.

Addressing a series of meetings in various localities during the last three days, Sonowal asserted that the progress in the region started as the BJP party led NDA formed government in New Delhi following the general elections in 2014. It was later fast-tracked as the saffron party won in 2016 Assam assembly elections.

In presence of another central minister from the State Rameshwar Teli, Sonowal did not forget to criticise the Congress party for its careless attitude to the region. He claimed that  the entire north-eastern region  was lagging behind in developments, because of the century-old party’s step-motherly attitudes during its rule for decades after the country’s independence.

Sonowal in his maiden visit to Assam, after being inducted into the Union cabinet led by PM Modi, even did not spare former PM Dr Manmohan Singh for his reluctance to initiate developmental activities in the region, even though he represented Assam in Rajya Sabha for decades.

Arriving in the city with a three-day interactive mission with the BJP workers and common people on Saturday morning, Sonowal also added that the landlocked region would witness more welfare and development related works in the coming days. In presence of Assam BJP president Bhabesh  Kalita, Sonowal also praised incumbent State CM Himanta Biswa
Sarma for bold offensives against the menace of drugs to save the future generation.

Sonowal on the penultimate day of his visit, attended public meetings at Demow, Jorhat, Mariani, etc, and also prayed at historic Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar, which was established by Mohapurus Shrimanta Shankardev’s prime disciple Sri Sri Madhabdev in the fifteen century to spread the message of spirituality and harmony. Earlier, he visited Batadrava, the sacred birthplace of Gurujona in Nagaon locality.
