Corrupt ADC having 100 crores of property arrested by vigilance: Arrested Saibur Rahman’s second wife is AIUDF leader

Guwahati: An Assam Civil Service (ACS) official Saibur Rahman was arrested on Tuesday by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

 

Police said Saibar Rahman, was being investigated based on a complaint of having misappropriated property. A complaint was lodged against Rahman that during his tenure as additional deputy commissioner in Dhubri, he had acquired the huge property by illegal and corrupt means. Interestingly Rahman is close to AIUDF chief MP Badaruddind Ajmal and Rahman's second wife Minakshi Rahman was a candidate of the AIUDF party in the Sarukhetri constituency in the Barpeta district in the last assembly election held in March-April this year.

 

SP of the vigilance cell informed that the civil servant Rahman has 89 landed properties in his or his two wives name worth rupees almost 100 crores. Police also found

 

moveable and immoveable assets belonging to him, worth over Rs 6.38 crore. More than 90 per cent of these properties are disproportionate to his known sources of income which is only Rs 6 crore, according to his tax return file. A case 01/2021 U/S 420/406/409 IPC R/W Sec 13(1)(b)/2(c) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment Act) 2018 was registered against him in Vigilance Police Station.

 

 

It should be mentioned that arrested Saibur Rahman married his second wife, a Hindu girl while he was posted as ADC in Morigaon district. His second wife Minakshi Das now Minakshi Rahman was his subordinate employee and the alleged forceful marriage had become a topic of controversy.

 

Investigating police said that Rahman bought 89 landed properties during 2002 and 2021 mostly in Barpeta district of lower Assam.

 

Rahman was posted as deputy secretary in the Welfare of Minorities and Development Department.
