Canada Prime Minister asserted that the country wouldn't recognise the Taliban as Afghanistan Government and reminded of their stand 20 years ago.

Amid the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in a statement Tuesday, August 17, denied recognising the Taliban as Afghanistan's government. While speaking to the reporters, PM Trudeau asserted that Canada has no plans to recognise the Taliban as the Government of Afghanistan.

Trudeau also reminded Canadians that 20 years ago, Canada didn’t recognise the terrorist organisation as a government when they took over.

“They have taken over and replaced a duly elected democratic government by force, they are a recognised terrorist organisation under Canadian law. Our focus right now is on getting people out of Afghanistan and the Taliban need to ensure free access to people to get to the airport,” he said.

Some countries, including the US, UK and Canada, have denied recognising the Taliban government formed by overthrowing the Ghani government. But some other countries like Pakistan, Russia, Turkey, and China have appreciated the Taliban’s regime.
