Karnataka creates history by becoming the first state to provide reservations for the transgender community in all Govt services

The notification underlines that there should not be any discrimination against transgender people in the process of selection.

Giving a massive relief for the transgender community, the Karnataka Govt has provided one per cent reservation for the 'transgender community in all the government services. Karnataka is the first state in India to give reservations to the transgender community. The government has submitted a report to the High Court informing that the government had already issued a notification after amending the Karnataka Civil Service (General Recruitment) Rule, 1977.

The final notification issued on July 6 specifies one per cent reservation in all general and reserve categories for the third gender. Whenever a notification is published inviting applicants for the government jobs, the 'others' column will be added along with male and female columns. The notification also underlines that there should not be any discrimination against transgender people in the process of selection.

The public prosecutor appearing for the government, Vijay Kumar Patil, informed the Bench that the government has provided the one per cent horizontal reservation in government recruitments by bringing an amendment to the existing rule.

The High Court welcomed and commended the action of the government.
