After trying every possible route to defy India’s new IT rules, finally the micro-blogging website Twitter has been made to follow the rule of the land. The social media giant said in a court filing today (Thursday) that they have appointed a resident Indian as interim chief grievance officer and will soon designate two other executives for the time being to comply with the new IT rules.
Twitter has posted job openings for all three positions and will try to make an offer of employment within 8 weeks. The company has said that while it is looking to comply with the new IT rules, it reserves its right to challenge them.
"While Twitter is striving to comply with the 2021 Rules, Twitter reserves its right to challenge the legality, validity, & vires of the Rules, and Twitter’s submissions regarding compliance are filed without prejudice to its right to challenge the Rules," the company said in the court filing.
Earlier, the Delhi high court had warned Twitter on July 6th that the company cannot take forever to comply with the country's Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
