A few days ago, Calcutta High Court slapped the Chief Minister with a fine of Rs 5000 for filing a late affidavit in the Narada bribery case.
On July 7, the Calcutta High Court imposed a penalty of Rs 5 lakh on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who appealed to the court to remove Justice Kaushik Chanda from hearing her case against BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s election win in Nandigram.
Recently Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seeks recusal of Justice Kaushik Chanda from her Nandigram election petition over the judge’s alleged links with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Justice Chanda himself rejected the application of the Trinamool Congress supremo.
Justice Kaushik Chanda of the Calcutta High Court stepped away from the case on his own personal discretion and not to hear the matter any further, after imposing a fine of Rs 5 lakh on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for painting the judiciary “in a bad light” by raising such allegations.
Seven days ago, Calcutta High Court slapped the Chief Minister with a fine of Rs 5000 for filing a late affidavit in the Narada bribery case.
The important thing is to note here that this is not the first time any Judge is maintaining distance from any case related to Mamata Government.
Earlier, two Supreme Court Judges recused themselves from two significant cases from hearing appeals of Mamata Banerjee.
Supreme Court Judge Aniruddha Bose recused himself from hearing appeals of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and State Law Minister Moloy Ghatak about their role on the day of the four TMC leaders arrest by the CBI in the Narada Sting Case.
Before that, Justice Indira Banerjee withdrew herself from hearing the post-poll violence case in Bengal in which BJP workers were allegedly molested, raped, and killed.
