The Calcutta High Court-appointed NHRC team submitted the interim report of post-poll violence in the state. Next hearing on July 13.
The Calcutta High Court on Friday (July 2) ordered the West Bengal police to register all cases of the victims of the post-poll violence in the state.
Earlier, the Calcutta High Court had ordered the NHRC to constitute a committee to investigate all the cases of post-poll violence. The seven-member committee had submitted the interim report on Wednesday (June 30).
While passing directions on the post-poll violence in West Bengal, a five-judge panel directed the state government to provide medical treatment for all victims and ration even for those who did not have ration cards. The Court ordered the West Bengal Chief Secretary to preserve all the post-poll violence-related documents.
The Court also ordered the second autopsy of BJP worker Abhijeet Sarkar, who was dragged and lynched in his home in Kolkata on May 2 at Command Hospital in Kolkata.
It issued a show-cause notice to Rashid Munir Khan IPS, DCP Jadavpur, asking him to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against him. Locals attacked the NHRC team in Jadavpur.
Over 30 BJP members and RSS volunteers have lost their lives in the post-poll violence unleashed by the TMC cadre since the election commission declared the assembly election results on May 2.
The Court asked the seven-member NHRC team to continue the investigation till July 13, when the case will again be taken up for hearing.
