Local councillor in Kerala opposes a Jewish Synagogue renovation.

In a shocking incident that exposes the growing Islamic fundamentalism in Kerala, the state archaeological officials were stopped from renovating a Jewish synagogue. A group of people led by local councillor MHM Ashraf stopped the officials from carrying out their duty.

Because of heavy rain in 2019 September, the Jewish Synagogue in the Kadavum bhagam area of Marakkadavu in Mattancherry (Kerala) faced severe destruction. The Synagogue dates back to the 14th century. It is one of the oldest Jewish houses of worship in India. This is currently under the state archaeological department.

Islamists trying to eliminate the last traces of Kerala’s Jewish history is unfortunate, and it is significant
to see whether the state government takes action against the hooligans who are stopping the renovation of the Synagogue.
