Guwahati: Assam is getting four more forensic laboratories to help the police in the process of criminal investigations and finally in the justice delivery course. The cabinet meeting, chaired by State chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, decided to set up the new laboratories at Assam medical college hospital at Dibrugarh, Silchar medical college hospital in Barak valley, Tezpur medical college hospital, and Bongaigaon civil hospital.

The cabinet opined that it would be not possible to conduct HSLC, High Madrassa, and HS final year examinations in view of the prevailing Covid-19 positivity rate, however, a final decision is expected to be taken on 18 June after a meeting between the education department and various stakeholders. It also decided not to allow home isolation to any corona patient who does not have a separate accommodation facility at residences.

The fifth cabinet meeting of BJP led government approved the statutes of Madhabdev university at Narayanpur, Bhattadev university at Bajali, Birangana Sati Sadhani State university at Golaghat, and Rabindranath Tagore university at Hojai for facilitating smooth functioning.

A decision was also taken to empower the social welfare department to procure rice directly from the Food Corporation of India for supplementary nutrition program under ICDS to reduce expenditure, said a government source adding that the ceiling would not be required from now onwards in implementation of the program.

Government aids to young boxers: CM Sarma handed over a cheque worth rupees 5 lakh to Tiken Borgohain, father of Arjun awardee ace boxer Lovline, with a view to facilitate her training and other preparations for the Tokyo Olympics. He also handed over a cheque of rupees 2 lakh for the bronze medal she won at Asian Boxing Championship in Dubai. Presenting both the cheques under State Sports Policy, when the young boxer's father met Sarma at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday, he also conveyed best wishes to her for the forthcoming international sports extravaganza.
