In an interview, the Chief Medical Advisor to the US President Joe Biden and leading infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said he was not confident that Covid-19 virus developed naturally. He also called for a wider investigation to ascertain the origin of the virus.

In an interview with PolitiFact editor Katie Sanders, Dr. Fauci said, “No, I’m not convinced about that. I think that we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we find out to the best of our ability exactly what happened.”

He added, “…I’m perfectly in favor of any investigation that looks into the origin of the virus.”

WIth more and more evidence suggesting the escape of Covid-19 virus from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, the call is growing louder globally for an independent investigation into the origin of the virus.

In February this year, a team of experts led by the WHO visited the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China to study the origin of Covid-19 virus but the Chinese authorities did not allow the visiting team access to raw data about the pandemic.

China reported the first case of Covid-19 in Wuhan on December 8, 2019. But, many now believe the virus was in circulation much before that.
