Five more pharma companies have been granted permission to produce Amphoterecin-B, the medicine used to treat Mucormycosis, commonly known as Black Fungus, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya announced Thursday.
Six Indian pharma companies are already manufacturing the drug.
He also added that pharma companies have been granted permission to import six lakh vials of Amphoterecin-B.
The companies which have got approval are Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Natco Pharma, Gufic Biosciences Ltd., Alembic Pharmaceuticals and Lyca Pharmaceuticals.
This is in addition to six companies which are already producing the drug: Mylan, Bharat Serums, BDR Pharma, Sun Pharma, Cipla and Life Care.
The minister tweeted, “The existing pharma companies have already started ramping up the production. Indian Companies have also placed orders for importing 6 lakh vials of #AmphotericinB. We are leaving no stone unturned to smoothen the situation.”
With the widespread use of steroids in Covid patients, Black Fungus is becoming another challenge for doctors.
Because of the sudden rise in Black Fungus cases, Amphoterecin-B is in shortage across the country.
The minister assured that the shortage crisis would be overcome soon.
