The Bharat Gold Mines Limited Hospital in Karnataka, established in 1880 and lying defunct for two decades, will be operational for Covid-19 patients from today.
The hospital was revived by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteers.
More than 300 volunteers of the RSS took about two weeks to revive the 800 bed hospital.
Currently, It will admit 200 patients and eventually it will be increased.
The BJP MP from Kolar S Muniswamy reached out to the Union Minister of Coal and Mines Prahlad Joshi for the necessary clearances which were provided in no time.
BJP leader Kamalnathan said more than 400 truckloads of garbage was removed by the volunteers and repair work undertaken to revive the facility.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr C.N. Ashwatha Narayana helped in arranging the medical equipments and the manpower.
Established in Kolar Gold Fields, it was the largest hospital of its time in Asia.
It was in service till 2000.
