A weekly magazine published by Malayala Manorama, The Week, has apologised for its article about Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. In its apology, the magazine says it helds Veer Savarkar in ‘HIgh Esteem’.

The article written by Niranjan Takle was published in 2016. The article had defamed Veer Savarkar ignoring the comprehensive facts about his life. Veer Savarkar’s grand-nephew Ranjit Savarkar had filed a defamation case against the weekly.

The current editor of the magazine, VS Jayaschandran, reached an out-of-court settlement with Savarkar and published the apology demanded by him.

The apology read, We hold Veer Savarkar in high esteem. If this article has caused any personal hurt to any individual, we the management express our regret and apologise for such publication.”

The article in question continued the practice of some to present selected facts about Veer Savarkar and defame him.
