West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said he would visit the violence-affected areas on his own starting Thursday.

He will be using the BSF helicopter and reaching Coochbehar Thursday morning.

Earlier, he had expressed his desire to visit the violence-affected areas. But, the Mamata government did not respond very positively.

“The image being projected is all is well and there is no violence but the ground situation is very different,” said Governor Dhankhar.

More than 25 BJP members and RSS volunteers have lost their lives in the post-poll violence unleashed by the TMC cadre.

Senior leaders of the TMC, including MPs Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra, have been going the extra mile to establish that the reports of violence were fake news spread by the BJP.

Governor Dhankhar had summoned the DGP and the Kolkata Commissioner of Police to the Raj Bhavan and had asked for a report about violence in the state.

On Monday, he said to ANI, “No one knows the State’s response better than me. There is no sense of accountability. On May 3, I sought a report from DGP, Kolkata CP & Addtl Chief Secy (Home) about status in their areas and steps taken to contain such menace. No report came forward.”

He added, “Post poll, we are in a deep crisis in the State. Retributive violence, acts of arson, loot now have graduated to intimidation and extortion. This is worrisome.”
