After Mamata Banerjee came to power on May 2, violence was reported from across the State, disturbing pictures and videos started circulating all over social media. BJP also alleged two of its female workers were gang-raped by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers. India Today reported the story on TV. India Today’s editor Deep Halder tweeted Bengal BJP’s allegation and asked West Bengal Police and Trinamool Congress party to verify whether this happened. Instead of countering BJP, West Bengal Police wrote Fake News over Deep Halder’s tweet’s screenshot.

The entire TMC ecosystem called for his arrest and harassment. Not just that, TMC MP Derek O’Brien issued an open threat to Deep Halder, his publisher Harper Collins and his employer India Today on Twitter. Sources in Bengal BJP say the girls are being threatened to give false statements by TMC. Meanwhile, TMC trolls and the liberal ecosystem are gunning after Deep Halder’s resignation and arrest. Bengal, meanwhile, continues to burn.
Several calls to Deep Halder went unanswered.
Halder is the author of two famous books, Blood Island: An Oral History of the Marichjhapi Massacre and BENGAL 2021: An Election Diary.
