The cadre of the TMC welcomed the victory of the party in West Bengal with massive violence in the state.
Immediately in the aftermath of the victory of the party, violence was reported from many places in Bengal.
Suvendhu Adhikari, the BJP candidate who defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, was heckled and roughed up by the TMC workers.
Stones were also pelted on his car.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s office in Arambagh was set on fire.
A BJP worker, Abhijit Sarkar, was lynched in Beliahata allegedly by the TMC workers.
Another BJP worker’s office in Bishnupur was set on fire.
The BJP candidate from Metiabruz, Ramji Prasad’s vehicle was pelted with stones.
Even journalists were not spared the violence. Payal Mehta, a journalist, was attacked. Her phone was snatched by the TMC workers.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in her speech after the election victory, did not even once ask her cadre to refrain from violent activities.
Many expressed fear that the BJP cadre in the state will face more violence in the face of TMC’s massive victory.
