Taking up a suo moto case about Covid-19 situation in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court Tuesday requested the government to impose a two week lockdown in the state.

Earlier, the court’s order of severe restrictions in five districts of Uttar Pradesh was challenged by the state in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had stayed the order.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had submitted in the Supreme Court that the state had taken many steps to check the spread of the virus.

The UP government has imposed weekend lockdown in the state. Also, there are restrictions on movement at night on the weekdays.

Because of the sudden spike in Covid-19 cases, the resources are under a lot of strain.

Taking into cognisance the strain on the resources, the Allahabad High Court suggested considering a two week lockdown was a good idea.
