Former union minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for polarisation in West Bengal.
But, Mamata Banerjee’s and Captain Amarinder Singh’s poll adviser Prashant Kishor blamed the Congress, the Left and the TMC for polarisation in West Bengal.
Kishor had Saturday said the Congress, the Left and the TMC have practised the politics of appeasement massively in West Bengal and this has resulted in polarisation in the state.
Both, the Congress and the Left, have ruled West Bengal for more than three decades each after Independence in 1947. The Trinamool Congress wrested power in 2011.
Kishor is the chief poll strategist of Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal. He is also the chief poll strategist of Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh, chief minister of Punjab.
Kishor had Saturday said the Hindu votes have been taken for granted in Bengal and always the focus was Muslim votes. So, the party which managed to get Muslim votes would be the winner. For the first time, Hindus are realising there is a party in race that values their vote.
Last week, Chidambaram had called Sanatana Dharma “poisonous”.
Chidamabaram also overlooked the fact that in one poll rally recently West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed to the Muslims to vote en bloc to her party and not waste their single votes.
The Model Code of Conduct, which is in place in West Bengal, prohibits any leader from invoking religious identities.
