Guwahati: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the houses of martyred soldiers namely Bablu Rabha and Dilip Kumar Das on 7 April to condole their untimely demises and console the bereaved family members praying for eternal peace of both the departed souls.
Mentionable is that both Rabha (who hailed from Dudhnoi, Goalpara) and Das (hailing from Bajali) were engaged with the central reserve police forces (CRPF) and laid down their lives for the nation during a recent encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh. “Both Rabha and Das made supreme sacrifices in the line of duty and they would remain immortal. Their bravery and sacrifices would keep inspiring the young generation,” said Sonowal adding that the attack on the soldiers by armed rebels was a dastardly act.
As the poll process relating to Assam legislative assembly elections was peacefully concluded, the chief electoral officer Nitin Khade offered thanks to everyone for extending cooperation and support to conduct the electoral exercise successfully. The three-phase State polls recorded an impressive 82.04 per cent voter’s turnout. “The dedicated efforts by the polling officers and staff, the response by the voters and all stakeholders have resulted in conducting a free, fair and safe election,” said Khade in a statement issued to media outlets.
Assam witnessed 79.93 per cent polling in 47 constituencies during the 27 March first phase, 80.96 per cent in 39 seats during the second phase on 1 April and 85.20 per cent voting in 40 seats during the third phase on 6 April. Women’s participation in the process was remarkable as 80.63 per cent of total women voters exercised their franchises.
