In a desperate attempt to stop the BJP from winning the Manjeshwar assembly constituency, the Congress Kerala president Mullappally Ramachandran has called for a tactical backing of its ally-Muslim League’s candidate in the constituency. BJP’s state president and firebrand leader K Surendran is contesting from Manjeshwar.

Ramachandran’s statement comes after various opinion polls predicting a BJP victory in the constituency. In the 2016 assembly election, BJP’s K Surendran has lost the election with a wafer-thin margin of 89 votes.

The Manjeshwar constituency was earlier in the news when the Islamist radical outfit SDPI had backed the Muslim League candidate for defeating their common rival BJP. There had always been accusations of the left colliding with the Congress and Muslims League to defeat BJP.

The State Congress Chief himself giving this call is a significant step since it indicates similar arrangements between the Congress and Communist Parties to transfer votes to each other n places where BJP has high chances of winning.
