After the Bombay High Court ordered a CBI inquiry into corruption allegations against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, the minister resigned.
The Court had ordered the inquiry Monday morning.
Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh had alleged that the Home Minister used to set extortion targets in the state.
The allegations surfaced more than a month back. But, NCP, the political party Deshmukh belongs to, had supported him.
NCP head Sharad Pawar held a press conference in Delhi to support Anil Deshmukh.
Singh had written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray alleging Home Minister Anil Deshmukh used to set an extortion target of INR 100 crore from commercial establishments in Mumbai.
