Guwahati: As the campaigning for the third and last phase polling of Assam legislative assembly elections came to an end on Sunday evening, the State (along with West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry) readies for tomorrow’s electoral exercise. Altogether 79,19,641 general electors (39,07,963 females and 139 trans genders) will decide the fate of 338 candidates contesting for 40 assembly constituencies.

Meanwhile, State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal yesterday addressed a number of poll rallies at Abhayapuri, Howley, Chenga, Jalukbari, etc. The senior BJP leader in his speeches claimed that the State government in Dispur achieved considerable success in unifying the people from Barak and Brahmaputra valleys, hills and plains of Assam.
“During the Congress government’s time, divisive politics were encouraged to keep Assam unstable, but the present government under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed the motto of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikash, Sabka Viswas to bring the people together,” said Sonowal.

He highlighted the government efforts to root out corruption from various machineries and stated that due to strict actions taken against corrupt officials, a lot of youths (poor but intelligent) have been able to secure government jobs transparently. People from all sections have been able to live a life of dignity as the government showed respect to the culture and traditions of all indigenous communities.

Asserting that people of Assam have shown tremendous faith on BJP and its allies despite misinformation spread by the Congress and AIUDF, Sonowal sought supports from the voters for a BJP led government to fulfill the target of Atmanirbhar Asom.

He emphasized on the need of an honest and effective government for removing corruption and bringing equal development in Assam. Sonowal also highlighted the outgoing government’s initiatives for preserving the Satras which remain the backbone of Assamese identity and culture. Union home minister Amit Shah, Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, State minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP’s ally UPPL leader Pramod Boro, also addressed public meetings in various parts of western Assam seeking voters’ supports for their candidates. However, Shah ended his program midway following the Naxal attacks in Chhattisgarh.
