On a campaign trail in West Bengal for the assembly election, TMC leader Sheikh Alam threatened that if the Muslims unite, they could make four new Pakistan in West Bengal.

He said, “We are 30 per cent and they are 70 per cent…If our Muslim population moves to one side then we can create four new Pakistan. Where will the 70 per cent of the population go?”

The voting for the 294 seats of the West Bengal Assembly is spread over eight phases, starting March 27.

The campaigning for the first phase of the poll will come to an end today.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been accused of practising appeasement politics. The imams have been provided with monetary help since 2012.
She captured power in the state after defeating the Left Front in 2011.
