The Odisha Government Initiates Process to Sell More than 35000 Acres of Lord Jagannath’s Land

The Odisha government has initiated the process to sell more than 35000 acres of land of Lord Jagannath of Puri.

The state’s Law Minister Pratap Jena informed the Odisha Assembly that the process to sell the land was initiated on the recommendation of a committee headed by former Governor BD Sharma.

The approval of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration had been obtained.

It also informed that the move was aimed at increasing the corpus fund of the temple from INR 650 crore to INR 1000 crore in next two years.

Shree Jagannath temple has 60426.943 acres of land. Out of this, about 400 acres is located outside Odisha..

The government has also initiated the process to recover these lands from the encroachers.

The Odisha government is working on a plan to develop Puri into a world heritage city. The estimated cost is INR 3000 crore.

The 12th-century temple is visited by lakhs of devotees from across the globe.
