Public Sentiments in Canada against China, Reveals Poll

The Majority of Canada people are now demanding that Ottawa must stop any kind of relation with Beijing until two Canadian people are not released who are held in detention in China. Former diplomat of Canada Michael Koving and Businessman Michael Spavor has been in Chinese detention for over 800 days for espionage charges.

The mood of 80% of people in Canada is against China. This has been revealed by a poll done by Angus Reid Institute.

China is also demanding the release of one of its citizens who is captive in Canada. The kind of row between China and Canada actually started as a kind of retaliation of Canada’s detention of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wenzhou who was detained in Vancouver in 2018.

Now the majority of Canada people don’t want any diplomatic relation with China. People of Canada also arising the issue of Uyghur’s genocide in Xinjiang Province in China which is a violation of the UN Human Right rules and a breach of an international treaty. Canada’s House of Commons overwhelmingly adopted a motion last month to declare China’s counter-radicalization.

Canada’s House of Commons has voted overwhelmingly to declare China’s treatment of its Uighur minority population a genocide. The motion — which was passed 266 to 0 at the end of Feb 2021 was supported by all opposition parties and few lawmakers from the governing Liberal Party. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and most members of his cabinet abstained. This motion made Canada just the second country after the United States to recognize China’s actions as genocide.

The poll by Angus-Reid Institute has found that opinions on China on different issues and topic including the boycott of Olympic. And record saying about the relation that there can be no moving forward until two detained Canadians are released from prison.

Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor were arrested by Chinese authorities on Dec. 10, 2018, shortly after the detention in Canada of Chinese Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou on a U.S. extradition warrant.
