Shopian Encounter: Top Jaish Terrorist Sajjad Afghani eliminated in Shopian Encounter, confirms IGP Kashmir

Jaish-e-Mohammad’s District commander for Shopian, Wilayat Lone alias Sajad Afghani has been killed in a three-day-long gunfight in the Rawalpora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday morning.

Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar confirmed the killing of Jaish commander Sajjad Afghani in the Shopian encounter.

He was instrumental in recruiting militants in South Kashmir, especially in Shopian.

Yesterday one local LeT militant namely Jahangir Ahmad was killed, an M4- rifle and Magzine was also recovered.

The operation was started on Saturday evening but due to darkness, it was suspended on Saturday late at night.

Operation again started on Sunday early morning. But to avoid any collateral damage, the operation was again suspended for the night on Sunday evening. Shopian Operation again resumed Monday morning with the first light of day.

A joint team of J&K Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Rawalpora.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
