Cricket legends Viv Richards, Richie & Adams thank India, PM Modi for vaccines

New Delhi: Cricket stars from West Indies including batting sensation Vivian Richards have thanked India and especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the anti corona vaccines provided to their country.
“It is an opportunity for me to thank India for the wonderful contribution India has made to our country, which is the vaccine. We thank you so much…..We look forward also that in future we continue the relationship. Thank you so much,” says former West Indian cricket captain Viv in a video shared in the social media by the High Commission of India in Georgetown, Guyana.
He thanked Prime Minister Modi and the High Commissioner in Guyana and “people of India for such a kind gesture”.
Another cricket star of his time, Richie Richardson has also thanked India and PM Modi for “kind generosity” for offering 40,000 anti-corona vaccines for his country.
“We are extremely grateful to you and your country sir,” he said.
Former captain Jimmy Adams also shared the same sentiment.
Adams is also the incumbent Director at the West Indies Cricket Board.
Guyana and several other Caribbean countries will benefit from the donation of 500,000 Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccines by the Government of India.
The Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine is reportedly 62 per cent effective. However, it is also reportedly 90 per cent effective with a lower dose than the required two doses, reports said.
The Modi government’s vaccination initiatives against Coronavirus got major endorsement and support from Quad partners comprising the US, Japan, Australia and of course India as well.
“Quad partners will address financing and logistical demands for production, procurement, and delivery of safe and effective vaccines. Quad partners will work to use our shared tools and expertise, through mechanisms at institutions including the United States Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and, as appropriate, Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC), as well as others,” said a statement from the US government.
