One terrorist has been killed in an ongoing gunfight between government forces and terrorists in the Rawalpora area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.
Earlier, on saturday evening, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of terrorists in that particular location but the hiding terrorists started firing upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
The operation has started on Saturday evening but due to darkness operation was suspended on Saturday late at night and resumed on Sunday early morning.
Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, internet services have been snapped in the Shopian district.
As per official sources district commander of Shopian Wilayat Lone Alias Sajad Afghani from terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba is believed to be trapped in an ongoing gunfight in Shopian.
Afghani, a resident of Rawalpora was initially associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit and a few months before he had switched to LeT. He has been active since 2018, an official confirmation about Afgani is yet to come but this will be a big victory for security forces at the start of the year 2021 in J&K to resume peace and tranquillity in that area as Afgani is one of the topmost wanted terrorists.
