The National Capital witnessed mayhem and unprecedented vandalism by anti-social and anti-national elements on the Republic Day. Who were those behind this agitation? What is their disclosed/undisclosed agenda? Who funded the agitation? A close look at how the so-called agitation panned out
Participants of the agitation
1. Farmers: There was a small section of genuine farmers who participated in the agitation against three Farm Laws passed by Parliament. They were unaware of the provisions of the laws and were misled to believe that the government/corporates would take away their land.
Their agenda: Some amendments to the laws.
2. Big farmers and arhtiyas (Commission agents): This movement includes large farmers who do not cultivate themselves, but engage others to do farming on their fields. Then there are arhtiyas, for whom farming forms a small part of their business.
Their agenda: This section has been earning huge income from middlemen for years. The laws will result in reduction of their incomes. Hence they are opposing the laws.
3. Communists: A large number of farmers’ unions are associated with Communist parties; Some unions are also being run by Communists.
Their agenda: Communists promote anarchy in the country. Their only agenda is to serve People’s Republic of China’s interests.
4. Khalistani separatists: Most pro-Khalistan outfits are supported by Pakistan’s ISI and other powers opposed to India. They want vivisection of India.
Their agenda: Breaking the peace of Punjab and creating Khalistan
5. Islamist forces: These are people who nurture the dream of carrying out Ghazwa-e-Hind – to Islamise India – by waging jihad
Their agenda: To establish Muslim rule in India.
6. Political parties: Opposition political parties like the Congress and the Left which had lost badly in the General Elections
Their agenda: They want to fish in troubled waters, increase their vote share, gain power and continue to benefit from corruption
7. Anti-Modi and foreign powers are also involved in this agitation in one way or the other.
Leadership of the agitation
Although the agitation used to be staged in the name of farmers, it was led by Communists, Naxalites, Khalistanis and Modi-baiters, whose only agenda is to bring the country to its knees and complete withdrawal of the laws. They saw to it that no solution was arrived at even after 11 rounds of talks.
The protesters were protesting in unauthorised venues. The main roads were blocked by the agitators. Their plan was to lay siege on Delhi. The agitation was creating chaos around Delhi borders, causing economic losses
Nature of movement
1. The agitation started with a dharna on railway tracks in Punjab. Disruption in railway services caused huge inconvenience to the industry, business and general public. When the State government discovered that the agitation was affecting its economy, it cleverly pushed the protesters to Delhi.
