Pro-BJP TN Ekathva Jamath President Ibrahim survives Murder attempt, the role of Naam Tamizhar Katchi, PFI, SDPI activists suspected

Tamil Nadu Ekathva Jamath president advocate Vellore M Syed Ibrahim had a miraculous escape in Kodaikanal when SDPI, PFI and Naam Tamizhar Katchi cadre attacked him with iron rods.

Ibrahim has been popularising Modi government’s achievements and debunking the myth that BJP is anti -Minority. He had undertaken padayatra in support of CAA, triple Talaq, repeal of 370 and BJP’s Vel yatra all over the state. He was telling his community that BJP is not anti -Muslim but helping them in various ways. But some outfits which have been misleading the community consider him as their enemy and objected his yatras in Muslim dominated areas. He was not allowed inside mosques to do namaz saying that he is a Sanghi and RSS worker. He is facing threats to his life. Now he has been provided police security.

Lately, he has been touring parts of the state as part of Desam Kappom Inaivom (join together to Save Nation ) campaign. On 26th January he addressed the gathering at Moonjikal area in Kodaikanal ( hill station) after hoisting the tricolour national flag on the eve of the 72nd Republic Day.

Days before the function, members of SDPI, TMMK, PFI and Naam Tamilar party made threats to him in social media. Despite the open threat to his life, he was taking part in the function. While he was speaking, there were commotions at the tail end of the gathering. Stones were pelted towards the dais. Sensing trouble, the organisers and police asked him to move away from the place. Ibrahim cut short his speech. Police and BJP cadres surrounded him and led him to a safer place. Armed SDPI, TMMK, PFI and Naam Tamilar workers made a murderous attack. In that, Ibrahim, his police escort and some party cadres received injuries. Badly injured Police personnel have been admitted to hospital along with Ekathuva Jamaat functionaries. The murderous attack on Ibrahim made tense moments in the area. Police used mild lathi-charge to shoo away the angry and unruly attackers.

Now the situation is under control. Additional police forces have been stationed there to avoid any untoward incidents. BJP and other Hindu outfits’ cadres gathered there. It was a part of a conspiracy hatched last year to create chaos and communal clashes in the state to facilitate easy win for DMK. More than 180 fringe outfits, letter-pad parties have been enrolled in this diabolical plan. Organiser weekly had carried a detailed report last October.

Indu Makkal Katchi founder Arjune Sampath condemned the attack on Ibrahim and police. In a statement, he said “in this alleged attack Nam Tamizhar Katchi also took part along with fundamentalists elements like SDPI, PFI, TMMK. This is a dangerous combination. They also attacked police personnel, personal security offer of Ibrahim and his followers. One policeman has received a head injury. The district police administration should have booked them under NSA and ban these outfits in the interest of the nation. Police failed to act despite having prior information about the attack on social media. Police detained 14 people in this connection and are kept in a marriage hall. The incident is a blot on the police. The attackers should be dealt with sternly. Kodaikanal Muslim Jamaat has also condemned the attack. TN Chief Minister should give personal attention to this issue and take appropriate steps. All the arrested should be booked under NSA provisions”.

After protests from BJP, police have now registered FIR. In Tamil Nadu attacks on BJP, RSS, Hindu Munnani, VHP and its supporters are increasing due to the state police’s callous attitude. No actions were taken even after lodging complaints. It was part of the state government’s appeasement policy and not to antagonize minorities since state goes to polls in short while. Tamil Nadu may witness many more attacks in the coming months, if the same attitude is adopted by both police and government
