In yet another incident of the targeting of Hindu places of worship, a Goddess Sita idol was found broken in the Sitaram Temple near Pandit Nehru Busstop in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. BJP leader Sunil Deodhar slammed AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on Twitter. He tweeted, “Despite y’day drama by @YSRCParty & @JaiTDP Netas attacks on temples continue. After #LordRamaidol, 40yr old Maa Sita Devi idol vandalised in Vijayawada today. Size/type/age of idol is immaterial. But why is it happening only with Hindus #SaveTemplesInAndhraPradesh”.
In a sequel to the earlier tweet, Sunil Deodhar wrote on Twitter, “Enough is enough, @ysjagan ji. Shouldn’t your silence & inaction be considered as hidden support to the miscreants? Are you taking Hindu sentiments for a ride? Ironically, all Hindu leaders of YCP too are silent. Aren’t they aware that people won’t spare them?#SpeakUpJagan.”
As per reports, party workers from the BJP rushed to the spot and staged a protest against the increasing attacks on Hindu temples in the state. When the police were informed, they reached the temple and initiated a probe in the case. During the preliminary investigation, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikrant Patil spoke to the temple caretaker Koteswaramma and assured the protestors that the accused would be nabbed.
There are widespread allegations against the present CM of Andhra and his party for promoting Christianity in Andhra with the state machinery. After his coming to power, evangelical activities have increased in Andhra and his government has rolled out incentives to pastors. As a result of the rise of Militant Christianity in Andhra, Hindu temples are being attacked on a day to day basis with the state machinery entirely siding with the evangelical agents.
