Expelled Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and ex-union minister Alagiri at a roadshow held in Madurai on Monday slammed Stalin by saying that Alagiri’s supporters will never let Stalin be the CM of Tamil Nadu. He also said that DMK had betrayed him and the party has forgotten Karunanidhi. “In today’s meeting, many people suggested that I start a new party. A few say they will accept my decision. “In today’s meeting, many people suggested that I start a new party. A few say they will accept my decision. Soon I will make an announcement. Good or not, all should accept it,” said Alagiri.
Alagiri further said, “When I was union minister, Karunanidhi had asked me to make Stalin the Deputy CM of Tamil Nadu and I agreed. No one in the DMK will accept that Karunanidhi had suppressed Stalin. The grown-ups of DMK had betrayed me. No one can be created like Karunanidhi. DMK is currently operating by forgetting such a leader.” He added, “I told Stalin that after Karunanidhi you will be everything in the party. I fail to understand that he betrayed me like this.
The former DMK South Organisation Secretary said he was never behind posts and claimed such responsibilities were “forced” on him by his father and late DMK chief M Karunanidhi. Recalling the bypoll victory in Tirumangalam in 2009 in Madurai under his leadership, when DMK was in power in the state, Mr Alagiri said he ensured his party won by a margin of 40,000 votes.
There are speculations of Alagiri floating a new political outfit before the Tamil Nadu assembly election which is scheduled to happen in April-May 2021.
