Congress leader Gowhar Ahmed Wani of Imamsahab Shopian was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday for ferrying Islamic terrorists in Shopian district of the state. He has now been arrested and booked under stringent sections of UAPA, reports ANI. Wani is currently in 7-day remand.
J&K police detained Wani for interrogation once he returned his home at Imamsahab. “He had initially tried to play the victim. We formally arrested him after hours of questioning him,” a senior police officer said.
Gowhar Ahmed Wani’s arrest comes at a time when there are confusions within the party regarding the Gupkaar alliance. With a member of the party himself arrested in a terror-linked case, the state congress will further find it difficult to explain its position in Kashmir to the public.
