BJP’s Vetri Vel Yatra is attracting a groundswell of support for the party in Tamil Nadu where anti-Hindu forces were ruling the roost
Tamil Nadu BJP president Shri L Muruganaccused DMK, VCP and its allies are of trying to incite violence the party’s proposed one-month longVelYatra from Tiruttani to Thiruchendur ahead of the 2021 state Assembly polls.
Tamil Nadu BJP is planning to take out a VetriVelYatra from November 6 to December 6 to create awareness about Modi sarkar’s achievements and anti-Hindu activities taking place in Tamil Nadu. The yatra is planned to start from Tiruttani and end at Tiruchendur covering all districts of the state. The VetriVelYatra is to cover the six abodes of Lord Muruga (Tiruttani, Tiruchendur, Tirupparangundram, Palani, Swamimalai and Pazhamudircholai).
There was huge outrage among Hindus when an anti-Hindu group KarupparKoottam made a derogatory video on Kanda Shasthi Kavasam of Lord Murugan. The BJP and other Hindu organisations staged protests against the group. They received an overwhelming response from the public to rally behind BJP.BJP also plans to hold public meetings at the six abodes of Lord Muruga. Initially,police denied permission to the yatra but BJP chief Murugan met the CM and got the green signal for the yatra.
The announcement of the Vetri Vel Yatra has kicked off a controversy with DMK, DK, Congress, Muslim, Christian bodies, Left, VCK and fringe outfits opposed it saying the proposed yatrawould whip up communal clashes.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan, in a letter to DGP, sought a ban on BJP’s VelYatra. He said that BJP’s road and rally appears to have been planned with the intention of causing communal riots in Tamil Nadu. VCK demand that permission must not be granted for the BJP’s VetriVelYatra. He said over the last few months, several actions of BJP and its affiliate organisations have been carried out with the intent of causing disturbance to the communal harmony that prevails in the state. The proposed yatra will cause a law and order problem” he pointed out. He also had said, “There is a conspiracy behind BJPs plan to end the yatra on December 6, which is Ambedkar’s death anniversary and Babri Masjid demolition anniversary. Thirumalvan met state DGP J K Tripathy not to give permission as BJP’s a yatra is a conspiracy to incite violence in the state.”
Thirumavalvan received a lot of flak over his remarks that all Hindu women are born prostitutes according to Manusmriti. Though FIR has been filed against him but he is yet to be arrested. CPM and others also urged the government not give permission to the yatra.
Murugan plans to meet party cadres and functionaries and would interact with them during the yatra. Party sources said it would boost them to work hard to face ensuing assembly elections
The indefatigable BJP had made it clear that the yatra would be launched as scheduled. Talking to mediapersons at Rameswaram on November 3, Murugan said the party is receiving people’s acceptance. “Those who are opposing our yatraare annoyed by its success. They are trying to incite violence in the yatra,” he said. He has appealed to the TN government to identify and take action against such elements. Murugan said BJP cadres are disciplined and will never indulge in violent activities. It is the parties that oppose are adept at it. They deliberately want to sabotage the yatra by creating troubles. They are not against the yatra but BJP should not meet people. It is their real intention”. Murugan plans to meet party cadres and functionaries and would interact with them during the yatra. Party sources said it would boost them to work hard to face ensuing assembly elections. They hope it will give the party much needed thrust to gear up the polls. The party also plans to do specialpoojas at Lord Murugan at his all six abodes and seek his blessings to make the yatra successful. Murugan says, “If it emerges successful, it will be a big turning point for the BJP.” Last month, he unveiled the logo for the yatra.
BJP President Shri J P Nadda, CMs of BJP ruled states, union ministers are scheduled to take part in the yatra. This is the preemptive strategy to avoid if any ban move by state government at the last minute. BJP’s IT wing would upload the campaign across the world on digital platform. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath is slated to take part in the yatra at Palani on November 23.
