Farm bills were the need of the 21st Century, MSP will continue as before, Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the two agriculture reform bills passed by Parliament yesterday were the “need of the 21st century” and also assured the farmers that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) would continue as earlier.

“These bills will empower farmers to freely trade their produce anywhere. I want to make it clear that these bills are not against the agriculture mandis. They were the need of the present hour, and our government has brought this reform for the farmers. Farmers can sell their produce wherever they see more profit,” said PM Modi.

Prime Minister Modi assured the farmers regarding minimum selling price (MSP) and said that it would continue unhindered. “I want to assure every farmer that the Minimum Support Price system will continue as before.”

“I want to clarify that this change is not against agriculture mandis. The work in mandis will continue like before. On the contrary, the NDA government has always strived for the modernisation of these mandis.” he said.

He also said that the Agricultural progress is in rapid pace during the Coronavirus pandemic, record purchase of wheat has been made from farmers during the Rabi season. “Rs 1 lakh 13 thousand crores given to the farmers at MSP. This amount is more than 30% over last year.” PM Modi added.

It is to be noted that 8 MPs have been suspended by the Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu after the unruly behaviour over Agricultural reforms.
