Indian Army has terminated atleast 43 Chinese soldiers in the Galwan valley battle in Ladakh. Asian News International (ANI) on Tuesday June 16 reported that intercepts of Chinese communications as revealing that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) had suffered 43 ‘casualties’ during a fierce border clash at Galwan valley with Indian Army. On Tuesday, Chinese troops attacked Indian Army officer and soldiers who were on a mission to ensure that terms of de-escalation were being implemented by the Chinese. When the Indian Army soldiers reached that spot, they were surreptitiously attacked and a fierce fight ensued. The battle which went on for hours resulted in the supreme sacrifice of 20 Indian Army soldiers, including a officer.
The PLA which attacked the Indian soldiers in a cowardly manner suffered heavy casualties when the Indian soldiers fought back. The PLA has reported that atleast 43 were dead during the fight and these figures were based on Indian intercepts of PLA communications, according to a source cited by ANI.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said that the battle occurred after the Chinese side tried to unilaterally change the status quo during de-escalation talks over the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Galwan Valley. In order to cover-up these misadventure, the PLA’s spokesperson accused the Indian army of crossing the LAC and launching “provocative attacks,” according to China’s Ministry of National Defense.
Indian Army initially confirmed that three soldiers had made the supreme sacrifice, including a colonel, but later informed that 20 soldiers were martyred and 17 injured. Known to hide information, China has not officially announced its casualties but blamed Indian soldiers for allegedly crossing into Chinese territory and attacking its troops.
MEA has said that PLA soldiers retreated back behind the LAC after the battle. Latest news sources report that both sides have “disengaged” from the scene of the confrontation. This Galwan confrontation is the deadliest between India and China since 1967 battle.
