Organiser had reported how a Assam based TV channel had forced Guwahati based journalist Ranjita Rabha to resign after she became pregnant as the channel refused to shift her to news desk.
Prag News, the city based satellite news channel came under fire from various media rights bodies and social organisations over its action. The channel authority had bluntly declared that it has no provision for maternity leave for women workers.
After the news went viral, the National Commission for Women has issued a notice to the said channel. The NCW notice states that the attitude of the channel exposes the double standards of the organisation towards pregnant employees.
The NCW condemned the insensitive attitude of the channel towards the employee and said that the commission is deeply perturbed by the violation of provisions of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961.
The NCW has aksed the channel to send its response to the notice at the earliest.
